“Jesus answered, ‘I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.’ ” (John 3:5-6)
Jesus: If you want to enter the kingdom of God, you’ve got to be born again.
Nicodemus: A grown man can’t really climb back into his mama’s womb.
Me: Ew.
Jesus, patiently: No, not a physical birth; you need a spiritual birth. You need to be born of water and the Spirit.
Jesus’ point, in part: You’re not physically alive if you were never born. (Duh.) And you’re not spiritually alive unless you’ve had a spiritual birth. And we’ll see that comes only through faith in Jesus. Nobody who has not trusted in Jesus can be a “spiritual person”—or meet God in his kingdom.
Think: If you are a Christian, when did you have your spiritual birth? When and why were you born again?
Pray: Thank God that Jesus made it possible for us to be born again so that we’ll be able to be with him for eternity.
Do: Make a plan to tell someone this week that you’ve been born again. Be ready to explain what that means.
