Late Night with Jesu: Are You the Wind?

“You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” (John 3:7-8)

Don’t just nod along with Jesus as you read these verses. Hit the pause button on your schedule long enough to allow the impact of what he told Nicodemus (and us) to fully land.

latenight_350Big Idea: You must be born again. You cannot be with God —ever—without being born again. There is no Plan B. When forever dawns, you’ll either be with God or apart from him (which is hell).

Big Idea 2: You can’t make yourself “born again” any more than you made yourself born the first time. The Holy Spirit “regenerates” us through our faith in Jesus. His work is as mysterious as the wind. We can’t see it; we can’t control it. It’s his work to re-birth us, not ours.

Think: How would you describe what it means to be born again in a few sentences?

Pray: Ask God again to help you understand Jesus’ hard words in John 3. Thank him for re-birthing you through the Spirit because of your faith in the good news of Jesus.

Do: Jesus said you must be born again to see God. Make a quick list of 3 other ways people hope will get them to heaven.
